History & Highlights
- Mission: To build a handicapped accessible baseball field at Roger Allen Park in Rochester, NH to accommodate a Buddy-Ball division league.
- This project was the “dream” of Howard “Howie” Seckendorf, local restaurateur, who passed away in November 2009 at the age of only 51 while serving as Rochester Rotary Club president.
- Rochester Rotary Charities is the fiduciary for the project, making all donations tax deductible under IRS section 501C3.
- Six member Steering Committee consists of: Kim Seckendorf (Howie’s widow and Rochester Rotary), John Creteau (Past President Roger Allen Baseball), Al Benton (Roger Allen Recreation Assoc.), Gerry Gilbert (Rochester Rotary), Justin Seckendorf (Howie’s son), and Patrick Gagnon (Howie’s nephew and Granite Steak & Grill).
- Roger Allen Recreation Association has provided the land for the field.
- The field has been cleared and leveled as of the fall of 2010.
- Plans have been drawn for the field and necessary accompanying structures (parking, restrooms and septic, press box, dug-outs) and are being refined with final construction plans expected by March/April 2011.
- A working budget for field construction has been prepared and is being finalized during the first quarter of 2011. Cost estimates are currently in the $335,000 range.
- Major fundraising events have included: a softball tournament in Sept. 2010, a Silent Auction & Dinner Dance in Oct. 2010, Comedy night in Jan. 2011 with a second one planned for April 2011.
- Approximately $80,000 has been raised as of January 2011 through fundraising events and donations.
